Monday, October 69:30—10:30 AMSohier RoomMain Library32 Essex Street, Beverly, MA, 01915

Major General Jabez Huntington (1719-1786) was a successful merchant from Norwich, a patriot stronghold of eastern Connecticut during the American Revolution. Come learn how he and his family provisioned the army, militarily served in Boston, and politically acted during the first year of the long war. This presentation draws on years of research, revealing how the family's wealth was built on the Atlantic trade and the labor of enslaved Black workers, including one who served in the war. We’ll also learn about the interesting women in the family. Maggie Meahl is a freelance journalist and researcher. She is writing a multi-generational examination of the Huntington family of Norwich, CT and their rise and fall in the Atlantic trade world from 1633-1893.
