Monday Mornings: Larchmont Remembered

Monday, March 179:30—10:30 AMSohier RoomMain Library32 Essex Street, Beverly, MA, 01915

Join Providence Journal columnist Daniel Harrington for this true story of the long-forgotten sinking of the steamship Larchmont just off Block Island in February 1907. Amidst gale-force winds and 20-foot waves, the Larchmont collided with the schooner Harry Knowlton three miles offshore. Passengers and crew had little chance of survival in the brutal conditions. This illustrated presentation includes eyewitness accounts, never-before-seen photographs, and a story of tragedy and heroism that will leave you deeply moved. Harrington is a director of the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame and a popular monthly columnist for the Providence Journal. Learn more on his site, Larchmont Remembered.
