The Puritans had a reputation for being very strict and stern. You might be amazed at what their attitudes about sex were, within reason…of course. Mary-Ellen Smiley will be presenting a lecture on the sexual attitudes of the people of the North Shore in the 17th century. What were people like? How was dating conducted? This is a realistic look at the intimate daily lives of our ancestors. Be surprised!
Mary-Ellen L Smiley MEd is currently a historic set designer and an antique restorationist. She has been the Director of the Salem Museum, a part of Gordon Colleges Institute for Public History, former Executive Assistant and Curator for Joanne Patton, past Director of the Beverly Historical Society, and past Curator at the Wenham Museum.
