REMOTE VIA ZOOM: Massachusetts Must Read Authors: Katherine Stewart

Wednesday, March 237:00—8:00 PMOnline

Author Katherine Stewart was recently recognized by the Massachusetts Center for the Book as one of Massachusetts's must-read authors of the year. Join Stewart for a brief presentation on her critically acclaimed book, The Power Worshippers: Inside The Dangerous Rise Of Religious Nationalism, via Zoom.

About The Book: The Power Worshippers is "a revelatory investigation of the Religious Right’s rise to political power." According to the author, for too long the Religious Right has masqueraded as a social movement preoccupied with a number of cultural issues, such as abortion and same-sex marriage. In her deeply reported investigation, Stewart makes the claim that the Religious Right is a political movement that seeks to gain power and to impose its vision on all of society. America’s religious nationalists aren’t just fighting a culture war, they are waging a political war on the norms and institutions of American democracy, according to Stewart.

About The Author: Katherine Stewart is the author of The Power Worshippers: Inside the Dangerous Rise of Religious Nationalism. She writes about politics, policy, and religion for The New York Times, Washington Post, NBC, and The New Republic. Her previous book, The Good News Club, was an examination of the religious right and public education.
